Who is Extractford?

Extractford is an independent commercial kitchen extraction company covering South East England. We work on canopies, ductwork, fans and filtration, whether that is a repair, a grease clean, an installation or a maintenance visit. The engineers who attend are on our own payroll, DBS-checked and insured, and the company does one trade rather than several.

A commercial kitchen extraction company working across South East England, staffed by engineers we employ rather than by whoever a call centre can reach that morning.

How long have you been trading?

Not long, and it would be easy to write around that. The company is new. The engineers are not: they have spent years on emergency callouts to commercial kitchens in these towns, which is where the operating habits on this site came from. The arrival window given on the call, the price agreed before the work starts, the phone answered at three in the morning. Those are not new ideas here, even though the company is.

What is genuinely new is the trading name, and that has one honest consequence worth stating on the page rather than leaving you to work out. Our review count starts at zero. There is no borrowed record standing in for it, no rating in the search result fed by somebody else’s customers, and no averaging of work in another trade to make the number look better than it is.

That is a weaker thing to publish than a five star average, and it is the true one. Until the reviews exist, the things worth judging us on are the ones lower down this page: who employs the engineer, what the insurance covers, what the report contains, and what we tell you we will not do. Our reviews page sets out what will be published there and how to read any extraction contractor’s reviews, including ours.

What are your credentials?

Everything below can be checked. Where a figure is not published yet, the entry says so rather than softening it into a phrase.

  • Insurance. Public liability and employer’s liability cover, with the certificate available on request. Ask for it before you book, from us or from anyone else.
  • Employed engineers. The people who arrive are on our payroll and DBS-checked. We do not sub-contract, so the engineer who diagnosed the fault is the one who comes back to fix it.
  • Gas work. We do not carry it out. Gas work is Gas Safe registered work, and the interlock trips we attend are almost always ventilation faults on our side of that line.

The registration position is written up in full, along with what it does and does not change about the cleaning work itself. There is also a page on Checkatrade.

Who will turn up?

One of a small team, and you will be told which one on the call. Names and photographs go here once the people in these roles have agreed to be named, which is their decision rather than ours. A stock photograph of a stranger in a hard hat would fill the space faster and tell you nothing.

  • Extraction engineer. Fan and motor work, ductwork and canopy repair, fault diagnosis on site.
  • Extraction engineer. Installation and canopy work, surveys, appliance line measurement.
  • Cleaning operative. Grease cleaning to the TR19 Grease methodology, measurement and photographic records.

What we will not do

  • Quote a price we have not seen the job for. A number given over the phone without a survey is a number that changes on site.
  • Publish a star rating. Google has been clear since 2019 that a business controlling its own review display is not eligible for stars, and that includes embedded third party widgets. Reviews go on independent platforms where they count.
  • Claim a standard we are not on. Where a register is still in progress, this site says so on the page it affects.
